Taiwanese Band Mayday Best Album 2nd Round
Second Round
第二人生
2012 is the year doomsday theories predict the end of the world. It got hyped up by Roland Emmerich movie 2012. The Mayan Prophecies were brought up. The fear-mongers came out with millions of theories why the world will end.
In our time, where people identifies with material world, the ignorant people fear death. The separation from what identifies them create fear in them.
There is little good music nowadays. People once had Beatles. And today the rappers only sing about sex, killing, cursing and drugs. Music is brainwashing. People should choose wisely what they listen to repeatedly.
In Chinese community, we have our equivalent of Beatles. This Taiwanese band is called Mayday. Since 1999, it had released 8 albums and have increased in popularity throughout the entire Chinese world. The seventh album, poetry of the day after, was unmatched in both lyrics, music and sales.
While hoping for their new album, I worried dreary a hasty production would give us off the cut concept, music and lyrics.
It was not a hasty job. I waited for three long years and they had proven again once again they are champions.
Their new album addresses the worry of the end of the world, putting faith and hope in their listeners. They were quoted saying that they hope if the end of the world comes, they hope people would bring along this album to the Noah of Ark, at least to provide some hope and restore some faith.
Their album, interesting named Second Round, says it all.A second chance. If it is going to end, please treasure what you have and think through your life carefully. What have you left undone? If the end of the world does not come, you are going to have a second round in life. Maybe we should live more as a united world, rather than globe with so many drawn lines. Maybe we should treasure our Mother Earth and go green. Maybe you have not shown much love to those whom you really loved. Now is the time to do all these.
Their album was released in two different versions. End of World 末日( no where) and next day 明日 (now here). The two differ in the arrangement of songs and one song called OAOA has a slight difference in lyrics.
The No Where version emphasize on dreams that you had always wanted to fulfill but failed so because of so many excuses you had given yourself.
The Now Here version starts of with the last song of No Where, and emphasize on a New World, which can be possible if everyone went to fulfill their dreams.
Their rock and roll songs have a poetry feel to it and hints of philosophy concept everywhere in their album.
